      John Schroeder (handwritten 1932)
      Death claimed another old resident of Manitoulin Island on Thursday, March 31st in the person of John Schroeder. For some months he had been in failinghealthand during the past couple of weeks gradually sank lower. He was taken to the Espanola Hospital two weeks before his death and passed away there. John Schroeder was in his 71st year and the most of these years had been spent on Manitoulin Island. Born in Waterloo, Ont. on April 6th, 1862, the family moved near Owen Sound but shortly after came to Manitoulin. He resided here until 21 years of age when he went west and farmed for a while later engaged in lumbering in the western states. After thirteen years he returned to Manitoulin Island and for 27 years lived on Bedford Island and for a short time ran the LaCloche Post in the early days. Mr. Schroeder never married and his only survivor is his sister, Mrs. Alex Hopkins, Espanola. The funeral was held from the C.P.R. station on Saturday at 1.30 p.m. with interment and a short service being held at Mountain View Cemetery, Little Current. Rev. J. H. Martin, conducted the funeral services.
