      Matthew Bailie
      in the passing of Matthew Bailie, after a serious illness on Saturday, August 17th, in his seventy-fifth year, Billings has lost one of its most amicable and trustworthy citizens, a good neighbor and kind father.
      He was born in the County of Oown, Ireland. At fifteen years of age he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bailie to Allendale, Ontario, where they resided for two years. Then coming to Manitoulin Island, where Matthew resided ever since. Through hard and strenuous labor he succeeded in cleaning the greater part of the farm on which he lived and erected a beautiful and substantial buildings, making a comfortable home. Mr. Bailie was of a family of seven of whom two survive: James Alexander of Billings and John of Welford, Ontario.
      He married Martha Foster, who predeceased him thirteen years ago.
      To them were born seven children, Mrs. O. Siler of Paisley, Ontario; Mrs. Alex McLeod of Gordon; Effie of Toront (sic); Harlo and William of Billings; Russell of Dundee, Ontario and Mrs. Wright, deceased.
      The funeral was held from his late residence on MOnday, August nineteenth.
      Interment in Kagawong Cemetery.
      Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.E. Sykes.
