Old Residents of Billings Tp. Move to Espanola
on Friday evening, May 17, a large number of friends and relatives gathered at Billings Community Hall as a farewell gathering for Mrs. Archie Thomson and family, who left our community last Friday to reside at Espanola.
An enjoyable evening was spent in games and contests. Mrs. Thomson was presented with a purse containing over ten dollars. Mrs. D. Munro gave the presentation address and Mrs. A. Ednie presented it. Rev. E.E. Sykes gave the farewell address in which he expressed how we regretted to have such a family as the Thomson's move away from our community, but with the modern means of conveyance a few hours drive in a car can bring them to us again. Wm. Thomson replied on behalf of the family, expressing their thanks and gratitude and extending a cordial invitation to come to see them when they were in their new home. This was followed by a community sing song, after which a lunch of ice cream, sandwiches, and cake was served in the basement. The party closed by all joining hands in a circle of friendship and singing 'He's a Jolly Good Fellow' and 'Auld Lang Syne.'
Mrs. Thomson came to the Manitoulin at the age of 17, in 1880 from West Wawanosh, twelve miles from Goderich. She married Archie Thomson in 1885, and lived in Billings ever since. Her husband died 26 years ago
